ThreatLeap Cofounder Discovered Security Vulnerabilities in NASA's Software - For Fun, Not Profit
Back in 2009, ThreatLeap cofounder, Leon Juranic, helped secure NASA’s Common Data Format (CDF) software by uncovering a dozen critical vulnerabilities. Fast-forward 16 years - and guess what? History repeats.
Leon spent 4 hours casually reviewing NASA’s in house developed software which they decided to open-source at one stage - and found over a dozen serious security vulnerabilities. From classic stack buffer overflows to exposed secret keys and XSS flaws, the issues span critical software still used in space and Earth science missions. All of it was found with nothing more than grep, vim, and a hacker’s instinct.
